Pull Your Pants Up

The “Pull Your Pants Up” Campaign is about leaders guiding leaders. The current trend for this young generation is walking around with their pants sagging below the waist and many with their pants even lower than that. After asking around, we found that most people were aware of the origination of this sagging pants concept. The sagging pants concept came from the prison system. The belts of the inmates were removed most likely to prevent suicide.
Then there is the other side of the sagging pants concept which signified a sense of sexuality in the prison system. If an inmate walked around with his pants below a certain level, it meant that he was seeking sexual companionship or was already engaged in sexual acts with another inmate. So we asked the Youth why they would follow a concept that didn’t represent their beliefs. Most answered, “It’s what we see on TV. “ We concluded that this was simply the blind leading the blind.

Henry Petithomme, the mastermind behind the “Pull Your Pants Up” campaign created an 8 week workshop geared towards building leadership qualities. It incorporates topics that range from politics to business to even etiquette. Our youth mentors are the backbone of this campaign. Their goals are to engage the creative minds of the youth while empowering them to believe that they are the leaders of the next generation. The campaign is then followed by a Rites of Passage Ceremony. This ceremony is to commemorate the accomplishments of those that successfully pass the challenges of the campaign signifying their right to move forward to the next generation of leaders. This ceremony will not only build the self esteem of the youths that are involved, it will also build the self esteem of their fellow peers, parents, teachers, mentors and their communities. Youth Etiquette:

Keeping it real the right way. This program is about teaching young men and women how to respect themselves as well as respect others. Mentors will use role playing, discussions, and examples to go over the rules of dating and sex. With the concept of “L’union fait la force”-Unity makes strength, the mentor will provide the Youth with an understanding of how important open communication is to establishing trust and respect in any relationship.

Youth Culture Class

Financial Management for Young Women and Men

Dollars and Sense. In these sessions the Youth learn the power of compound money. They will also learn the importance of how to save money, spend money wisely and how to invest and plan for the future.

Politics and Law

 

Less Talk More Action. An understanding of how Politics and Law affects you the Young Generation, and the strong belief in our mission statement “L’union fait la force” –Unity makes strength. We have a compelling belief that, Yes-You can make a difference. That was obvious in the 2008 presidential election.
In open forums the Mentor will share current events and use the media to set the stage for the Youth to discuss how they can improve the quality of life and circumstances surrounding them. With your help as a YPM mentor, we can effect change and will make a difference.
